Consistent experience over time

I've been using Poloniex off and on for a couple of years now, mostly for altcoin trading and some staking. This last time I deposited some Tether to trade for a new project token. The platform has remained pretty consistent. I know where everything is, and the interface hasn't changed much, which I appreciate. Deposits and withdrawals have always been reliable for me, usually taking the expected amount of time. It's not the flashiest exchange, but it's a solid workhorse for my needs, especially for finding less common tokens. I keep coming back because I know what to expect.

Got my Bitcoin traded

Needed to trade some Bitcoin for another coin, and Poloniex worked out okay. Signed up, funded my account, and placed a market order. It was all pretty quick. Didn't have any glitches or anything. The app was easy enough to figure out, didn't feel overwhelmed. Just a basic trade, but it went smoothly, which is what you want. No complaints, really.

Decent fees for trading

I was looking to buy some Ethereum and compared fees across a few platforms. Poloniex had a pretty competitive rate, especially after applying a referral code I found for a fee rebate. It wasn't a huge amount saved, but every little bit helps when you're trading. The process of buying was simple enough once I deposited funds. I felt I got good value for my money, and the transaction went through without any issues.

Good for altcoin spot trading

I used Poloniex for some spot trading recently, mainly for a few altcoins that aren't on my main exchange. The account setup was straightforward, though identity verification took a couple of days, which was a bit slow. Deposits went fine; I used crypto, so no fiat on-ramp experience to share. The trading interface itself felt a bit dated compared to some others, but it was functional, and I found the specific pairs I was looking for. Execution was quick enough for market orders. I didn't need to contact support, which is always a good sign. Withdrawals were standard speed for crypto, nothing unexpected. Overall, it got the job done for the specific altcoins I wanted to trade.

Does Poloniex have a mobile app? Trading from a desktop is a pain sometimes.

L Laura Romero 2 months ago
Yep, they have both iOS and Android apps. Works pretty well, I use it all the time for checking prices and quick trades.

The app is alright, not super fancy but functional. You can do most of what you need from it.

What's Poloniex like compared to Binance? Thinking about switching, but not sure if it's worth the hassle.

D Daisy 2 months ago
Binance definitely has more coins and maybe better liquidity for some pairs. Poloniex has a good selection too, but it feels a bit smaller. Interface is pretty similar though.

I've used both. Poloniex is fine, but Binance feels more established globally. For altcoins, Binance often has more options and sometimes better prices. Poloniex used to be huge, but kinda fell behind after a while.

Hey guys, thinking about signing up for Poloniex. What's the deal with their referral codes? Do they actually give you a good discount or is it just tiny?

R Raj Lindqvist 3 months ago
Yeah, if you use a referral code when you sign up, you usually get like 10-20% off trading fees. It's not massive but it adds up if you trade a lot.

I got a pretty decent sign-up bonus with mine too, on top of the fee rebate. Worth finding a good one before you register.

Any experience with their customer support? Hope I don't need it, but good to know if they're responsive.

R Ryan Romero 3 months ago
It's decent. Not lightning fast like some, but I've always gotten a reply within a day or two for minor issues. Verification took a bit longer though.

I had a login problem once, submitted a ticket and got it sorted within 48 hours. Not the worst, not the best.

Is Poloniex available for US residents? Heard mixed things about exchanges and US regulations lately.

D Daisy Bennett 2 months ago
Nah, Poloniex isn't generally available to US residents anymore, at least not for new accounts. They pulled out a while back I think.

You'd probably need a VPN to even try, and that's risky. Most people I know in the US use Coinbase or Kraken now.
